The Boucher Legacy

As part of our conservation effort we support the Boucher Legacy.
Here is what they have to say:
Pioneered by ex-South African cricketer Mark Boucher, The Boucher Legacy was started in 2012 when Mark retired from international cricket and began to focus his passion and commitment on wildlife conservation.
Partnering with ex-SAB Head, Alastair Hewitt, they co-founded The Boucher Legacy. If one considers Mark’s passion and approach to cricket and his “never give up” philosophy, one can see why The Boucher Legacy continues to play a major role in profiling the plight of endangered mammals in Southern Africa.

“The decimation of these species is totally unacceptable and we at The Boucher Legacy are taking action and playing our part alongside other conservation efforts to protect these incredible animals.”
Alastair Hewitt, The Boucher Legacy

Our BIG goals
- To raise R10 million for conservation.
- To be a driving force in the war on rhino poaching across Southern Africa.
- To work with SANParks and other private reserves on the monitoring and protection of endangered mammals
- To play a role in de-horning of rhino (where allowed) as this is currently the only true deterrent of poaching in the short term.
- To continue the journey of pangolin rehabilitation with the African Pangolin Working Group.
- To continue our relationships with Cunard, Kevin Peterson and his Legacy, the South African over-50’s World Cup Cricket team and Devil’s Peak Conservation Lager, to work together on conservation efforts for endangered animals including: rhino, pangolin, lion, elephant, wild dog and cheetah.

Did you know?
Every ten hours a rhino is killed for its horn. This means three rhinos are poached every day in South Africa.
Most people have never encountered a pangolin in the wild, but one pangolin is taken by poachers every five minutes in Africa.
Every 10 minutes an elephant is killed for its ivory. While this scourge is currently concentrated in East Africa the problem is slowly moving southwards.
Lions once roamed the plains of Africa but now their numbers are down to 20 000 and they have been eradicated from more than 20 countries on the continent.
Only 3 500 wild dogs remain on earth
There are estimated to be only 6 300 cheetahs left in the wild.
